28 The Crucifixion and Resurrection of Jesus (Matthew 27-28)

Long ago, in the land of Jerusalem, lived our brother and teacher Jesus. Jesus was a kind and loving teacher who taught people about the love of God and how to live a life full of kindness and compassion. Many people followed him and called him "Teacher."

One day, some jealous and fearful people arrested Jesus. It was a very sad moment for his followers as they brought him before the Roman governor, Pontius Pilate. Although Jesus was innocent, Pilate allowed him to be crucified on a hill called Golgotha.

Jesus was nailed to a cross, and his followers wept and felt desperate seeing him suffer. Jesus forgave those who crucified him and prayed for all, saying, "Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing." Then, in the midst of pain and suffering, Jesus died on the cross.

A righteous man named Joseph of Arimathea and a devout woman named Mary Magdalene helped take Jesus's body down from the cross and placed it in a tomb. They sealed the tomb with a large stone, and all of Jesus's followers were filled with sadness and grief.

However, something wonderful was about to happen. Three days later, on the day we now know as Easter, Mary Magdalene and some other women went to Jesus's tomb early in the morning. But when they arrived, they encountered a bright angel who told them, "Do not be afraid! Jesus is not here, he has risen, as he said."

The women were filled with joy and ran to tell the disciples the exciting news. The disciples ran to the tomb and found that the stone had been removed, and the tomb was empty – Jesus had risen!

That same evening, Jesus appeared to two of his followers as they walked the road to Emmaus. He then appeared to all of his disciples, showing them his wounded hands and feet. They were filled with joy and amazement to see him alive again.
