Long ago, the story goes that in the land of Israel, there lived a woman named Hannah and her husband Elkanah. Hannah had longed for a child for a very long time but had not been fortunate to have one. She prayed to God with sadness, asking for a child.

One day, while in the temple, Hannah prayed so fervently that her tears flowed like rivers. She promised God that if he gave her a child, she would dedicate him to the service of the Lord for his entire life. Hannah was so engrossed in her prayer that the priest Eli thought she was drunk.

But Hannah explained that she was not drunk but was pouring out her heart to God. Eli understood and told her that her prayer would be answered. Hannah returned home with hope in her heart.

Shortly thereafter, Hannah and Elkanah had a son whom they named Samuel, as she had promised. When Samuel was old enough, Hannah took him to the temple to fulfill her promise. She entrusted her beloved son to the priest Eli to raise and educate him in the service of God.

Samuel grew up in the temple, learning about God and how to serve Him. One night, while Samuel was sleeping in his bed in the temple, he heard a voice calling him. He thought it was the priest Eli calling him and went to see him.

But Eli told Samuel that he had not called him and told him to go back to bed. This happened two more times, and finally, Eli realized that it was God who was calling Samuel. He advised him to respond, "Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening."

When Samuel did as Eli instructed, God spoke to him and gave him an important message for the people of Israel. From that day on, Samuel became a prophet of God and received divine messages and visions to guide the people of Israel on the path of God.
