9 David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17)

A long time ago, in a land called Israel, there was a great battle being fought between two armies. The army of the Philistines, led by a giant named Goliath, was facing off against the army of Israel. Goliath was as tall as a tree and wore heavy armor that made all the soldiers tremble in fear.

In the camp of Israel, there was a young man named David. David was not a soldier; he was a shepherd, but he had a brave heart and loved God. One day, while taking food to his brothers who were in the army, David heard Goliath taunting and challenging the soldiers of Israel.

David felt saddened by the fear Goliath was causing his people. He volunteered to face Goliath, even though everyone thought he was too young and small to do it.

King Saul, impressed by David's bravery, allowed him to face Goliath. David put on a simple tunic, picked up five smooth stones from a stream, and took his sling. He approached Goliath, who was dressed in his heavy armor, and said with determination, 'I trust in God and will face you in the name of my people.'

Goliath mocked David and advanced toward him. But David, with his sling in hand, hurled one of the stones he had gathered. The stone flew accurately and struck Goliath in the forehead, felling him. Goliath fell to the ground, and David ran to him and took the giant's sword. The Philistine soldiers fled in fear at the sight of their great leader defeated.

The army of Israel celebrated David's bravery and his faith in God. Despite being young and small, David had defeated Goliath with the help of God.
